Was the ‘recensio d’autore’ really needed? A reflection on few pages of Come lavorava Carducci

Abstract

In the book Come lavorava Carducci, published in 2020 and co-authored by the author of this essay, appears a denomination, the formula ‘recensio d’autore’, which is now discussed at length and fine-tuned, as it could appear at first quite opaque. The essay argues that, using ‘recensio d’autore’, the focus must be shifted on the one hand on the private collection of papers independently inventoried by Carducci and, on the other hand, on how he used his private papers to propose his own story as well as his own construal of his output.
